Fokla Koniukhova — Violin
Originally from Ukraine and now based in Victoria, BC, Fokla Koniukhova is a professional violinist with a Master’s degree in Music and many years of experience as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician.
Throughout her professional career, Fokla has performed with symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, and as a soloist, developing a versatile repertoire that ranges from classical music to popular favourites, film music, waltzes, romantic melodies, and well-loved songs.
Since arriving in Victoria, Fokla has become an active member of the local musical community, collaborating with LADO Strings and other Victoria musicians and performing at concerts, private events, weddings, community gatherings, and senior residences.
A particularly meaningful part of her work is performing for older audiences. Fokla enjoys creating programs filled with familiar and memorable melodies that encourage connection, reminiscence, and enjoyment through live music. She is especially interested in developing her solo performances for seniors and continually expanding her repertoire to better suit this audience. She has performed for residents at Beckley Farm Lodge, Veterans Memorial Lodge, The Kiwanis Pavilion, Parkwood Place, and other senior communities in Victoria.
Her popular solo program combines live violin with professionally prepared backing tracks, creating the sound and atmosphere of a fuller ensemble while keeping the performance personal and engaging. Programs are typically 45–60 minutes and can be tailored to suit the audience, occasion, and atmosphere.
Fokla is available as a solo violinist, as well as in duo, trio, and larger string ensemble settings through collaborations with LADO Strings and other professional musicians.
Beyond music, Fokla is also actively involved in the local community. She volunteers with Soap for Hope and enjoys creating handmade knitted and crocheted pieces, which she donates to various community organizations and initiatives throughout Victoria. She has developed a genuine affection for the city and especially enjoys Beacon Hill Park, Victoria’s wildlife and nature, and, very much, cats.
Her connection to Ukraine remains an important part of who she is. After being forced to leave her home country because of the war, Fokla found safety in Victoria and has come to deeply value its peaceful, welcoming, and friendly community. While Ukraine will always remain close to her heart, Victoria has become a place where she can continue to grow, contribute, create, and build new relationships through music and community involvement.
Whether performing a beloved classical melody, a familiar song from years past, or providing elegant background music for a special occasion, Fokla brings professional musicianship, warmth, sensitivity, and genuine care for her audience to every performance.
